Michelle Fragoso
Pianist, Guitarist, Bass Player, Composer and Producer.
Those who have heard Michelle know that when he comes into contact with the piano, the guitar or the bass, he simply enjoys. Michelle was born with a talent for music in the legacy of his brilliant musical family. It was his mother and a piano teacher Maylin who glimpsed his promising future in front of the piano. He is the son of Guillermo Fragoso, the current musical director of the orchestra of the famous cabaret Tropicana in Havana, and the nephew of the singer Algeria Fragoso, important interpreter of the Cuban music. He studied the guitar and the piano at the Guillermo Tomás Conservatory in Guanabacoa, Cuba, and then he continued higher studies at National Art Schools (Cuba).
He was the pianist of the musical group Café Nostalgia in Miami under the direction of Omar Hernández and Conjunto Progreso. He produced Cubiche, the album that featured talented musicians under the direction of Descemer Bueno. In 2005, he founded his own group Buya where he continues to mix World Music with Cuban rhythms and Latin fusion music. The group featured several artists and composers such as Omar Alfano (Son by Four), Andrés Cabas, Ricky Martin, Chayanne, Luis Enrique, Pavel Núñez, Cristian Castro, Pancho Céspedes. He has also collaborated with producers such as Emilio Estefan and Desmond Child. In the world of Jazz, Michelle has collaborated with Horacio (El Negro) Hernández, Arturo Sandoval, Chucho Valdéz, José Gola, Giovanni Hidalgo, and Changuito among many other greats musician. His work as a pianist and an arranger has been nominated for the Grammy’s awards various times. Michelle’s music was published in Hollywood for the first time in 2004 for the film Dirty Dancing with his song "Timbason." His song "No me hables así" was part of the soundtrack of the HBO TV show The L World. Michelle debuted as an actor as the lead character of the film Dos Veces Ana by the director Sergio Giral. He also composed the soundtrack of the same movie.
The album Cosas (2014) is a fusion of Cuban tumbao with Hip Hop, R&B, Rock and Pop. This most recent production of his was considered as a masterpiece of traditional Cuban Jazz. One of titles of this production "Mega de Verano" was a promotional theme song for Mega TV. His album Entre Cuerda (2012) has popular songs such as "Georgia on my Mind," "20 Años," "Summertime," and "Seis Lindas Cubanas."
